Sizing up to a nicely balanced 0.75" (3/4") in diameter, these thin bezel cufflinks let the wood shine. Crafted with the collector in mind, these cufflinks are bright, colorful, and are more suited for play than work.
Each pair is made one pair at a time by me, by hand, in my home shop. Because woods vary greatly in color, figure, and texture, yours will be unique in color, grain pattern, and figure.
Most species of Pterocarpus yield valuable timber traded as padauk; other common names are mukwa or narra. The wood is known as amboyna when it has grown in the burl form. All padauks are of African or Asian origin. Padauks are valued for their toughness, stability in use, and decorativeness, most having a reddish wood. Most Pterocarpus woods contain either water- or alcohol-soluble substances and can be used as dyes. Some padauks, e.g. P. soyauxii, are used as herbal medicines, for example to treat skin parasites and fungal infections.
